Ice Cream, Comics & Sci-Fi. What a perfect combo for Father’s Day

With all the recent political upheaval, perhaps it’s time to step out and enjoy the fine summer weather that we’re having. We’ve already got ten confirmed trips between Friday the 16th and Sunday the 18th of June between Nottingham and London.

So, now you just need to know what’s on in London and Nottingham over the weekend. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Let’s start with London.

 

London Gelato Festival – Friday June 16th- Sunday June 18th, Old Spitafields Market (Spitalfields)

There are many reasons Summer is everyone’s favourite season. One of the best is definitely ice cream or, as the Italians say, “gelato”. It was invented in 1559, but the Florentine artisan Bernardo Buontalenti at the court of the Medici family. 2017 is the 8th year of the Gelato Festival, taking place in Italy and all over Europe with the aim of finding the best Italian and international gelato artisans. London’s event will take place at Spitalfields Market with free entry, but if you want to taste all the different varieties of ice cream you might want to purchase one of the festival’s tickets (£12). Watch out for ice cream-brain freeze!

East London Comics and Art Festival, Friday June 16th – Sunday June 18th, Round Chapel, Clapton (Hackney, East London)

Comic book lovers, this is for you! East London Comic and Art Festival ( ELCAF) is a three-day long event that will take place from Friday the 16th to Sunday the 18th in Clapton, in the East London borough of Hackney.  The first ELCAF took place in 2012 and has grown into one of the leading graphic arts festivals in the U.K, with over 15,000. This year’s event promises to be even more interesting than previously. You can check out the programme and book your tickets here and remember, under 16s get in free!

Sci-Fi Father’s Day, Sunday June 18th, Museum of Brands, Packaging & Advertising, Ladbroke & Grove (Kensington & Chelsea, West London)

Father’s Day is around the corner. Is your dad a Trekkie? and you yourself a Master Yoda fan are? Or it is the other way around? You can ‘settle’ your differences on Sunday, at the Sci Fi Father’s Day at the Museum of Brands, Packaging & Advertising. There is a  Beam Me Back, Scotty exhibition (a display of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s ) and also the opportunity to grab a space-themed photo with the space-themed selfie station and/or get a gift for your dad at the Museum’s shop.

The Cally Festival 2017, Sunday June 18th, Caledonian Road (Islington, Inner London)

Sunday is expected to be one of the hottest days of the year (28 degrees ): What better way to celebrate than a free festival celebrating one of the most vibrant London neighbourhoods? What to expect? Lots of people for starters ( over 7,000 people attended last year) as well as music, performances, arts and creative workshops. Just catch the Tube to Caledonian Road!

Wild African Summer Roast with 7 Courses Sharing Plates, Sunday June 18th, The Joker (58 Penton Street, Islington, Inner London)

In Nottingham, on Friday the 16th, you can check out the Photography End of Year Show at the Central College ( click here for more info ) , go for a stroll in the Austrey Open Gardens on Saturday the 17th and on Sunday the 18th you might want to  celebrate an unusual Father’s Day at Creswell Crags, stepping in the footsteps of Cave Men, with special discounts for dads!
